Hydro Ottawa contractor has died from his injuries
Rest in peace Barry Dale Robertson
OTTAWA — A worker electrocuted last week in an accident on Moodie Drive has died from his injuries.
Barry Dale Robertson, 31, died Monday, four days after he was shocked when the boom of his truck contacted overhead wires while digging holes for new hydro poles. Two co-workers also received shocks, but still managed to pull Robertson to safety and begin CPR.
Robertson wasn’t breathing and his heart had stopped when paramedics arrived, but they were able to resuscitate him on the way to hospital. Robertson was an employee of Dig-Safe, which was working on contract for Hydro Ottawa.
The Ontario Ministry of Labour is investigating the accident.
“Hydro Ottawa employees are deeply saddened by this loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with Barry’s family at this most difficult time,” said Bryce Conrad, Hydro Ottawa’s president and CEO.
Robertson is survived by his partner, Becky Markell, child Nevaeh and step-child Merika as well as his parents Patricia and Garry Robertson.
A wake is to be held for friends to pay respects on Thursday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Kelly Funeral Home, 585 Somerset Street West. The funeral is to be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Lukes’s Anglican Church on Somerset Street West.
